I plan to shoot at least two programs in the Southeast.  The final choices as to where I videotape won't be made until I have a chance to explore several places first.  Under consideration is CSX's "A" Line in North Carolina, Dalton, GA, and Austell, GA.

This video shows the traffic and operations at many locations on CSX's Fitzgerald Subdivision in southeastern Georgia.  CSX's strategic Fitzgerald Subdivision runs from Manchester to Waycross, a distance of just over two hundred and one miles, and is CSX's gateway between Florida and the Midwest.  The Fitzgerald sub between Manchester and Waycross is a funnel with most trains from the Midwest via Atlanta and Birmingham taking this line to Florida.  The tonnage on this undulating line through the piney woods and peanut farms of southern Georgia has tripled in the past 30 years and this former Atlanta, Birmingham, & Coast and Atlantic Coast Line main is handling the most trains and tonnage of its one hundred year history.  This video shows over 24 hours of continuous action around Fitzgerald on CSX's busy line between Manchester to Waycross in October of 2002.  85 minutes.

With over 55 trains in 24 hours on peak days, the 14 miles between Austell, west of Atlanta, and Inman Yard in Atlanta is the busiest line segment on the whole NS system.  At Austell the NS lines to Chattanooga and Birmingham divide.  We caught all of the NS action around Austell for 24 hours in April 1996.  2 hours, 39 minutes.

Cartersville, 50 miles north of Atlanta, is where the CSX lines from Nashville and Cincinnati join together.  This single track funnel is one of CSX's busiest lines and one of the most congested in the U.S.  This tape shows 24 hrs. of action around Cartersville in April 1996.  112 minutes.
