CSX-NS Shared Assets Lehigh Line

When Conrail was split up in June of 1999 both CSX and Norfolk Southern gained the right to use Conrail's Lehigh Line east of Manville in northern New Jersey to access the many terminals in North Jersey that serve the New York metropolitan area.  This busy line hosts all of Norfolk Southern's trains into and out of northern New Jersey, and CSX's trains between northern New Jersey and the Southeast via Philadelphia.  This video shows over 24 hours of fast-paced action in April of 2001 on the shared section of the Lehigh Line east of Bound Brook in northern New Jersey.  61 minutes.

The Trains of Southern New England 2001

Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southern Massachusetts contain some fascinating railroading. This video shows action on the regional railroads and most of the smaller railroads of southern New England in April of 2001. The railroads covered include Amtrak's newly electrified Northeast Corridor east of New Haven featuring the new Acela trains, the Dynamic Providence and Worcester, New England Central, and several short lines. 95 minutes.

CSX in the Berkshires

On June first of 1999 CSX began operating their share of Conrail including Conrail's Boston Line through the beautiful Berkshire Hills in western Massachusetts - where one would least expect to see CSX trains.  This videotape shows all CSX trains for 30 continuous hours on the steepest part of their Boston Line through the Berkshires, the world's first mountain railroad, between Chester and Pittsfield in western Massachusetts in May of 2001.  77 minutes.

Guilford's Revitalized West End

This video shows the trains running in April of 2001 on the historic West End of the former Boston and Maine, now operated by Guilford Rail System's Springfield Terminal. This video will first show 24 hours of action on the reborn scenic line through the Berkshires in western Massachusetts. Next will be a tour of the West End between the railfan bridge at East Deerfield and Mohawk Yard near Schenectady, NY, including the historic Hoosac Tunnel. The West End has seen a remarkable revival since the breakup of Conrail. Three times as many trains traverse the West End today as compared to two years ago.  90 minutes.

The Busiest Single Track in the U.S.

Through the middle of the scenic Flint Hills in east-central Kansas passes the busiest single-track line in the U.S. or Canada for freight trains - BNSF's Chicago to Los Angeles "Transcon Line".  The fastest trains in the U.S. thunder across the largest remaining tall grass prairie in the Flint Hills in an awesome display of power and speed.  This video shows over 24 hours of incredible action on the busiest single track in the U.S. in June of 2001.  105 minutes.

Dawn to Dusk at Tower 55

Tower 55 in Fort Worth is the busiest and best-known railfan hot spot in the great state of Texas.  At Tower 55 five rail lines cross at grade.  The east-west Union Pacific Dallas Sub from St. Louis to El Paso crosses BNSF's Kansas City to Houston line and UP's former Katy and MOP Kansas City to Houston and San Antonio line at grade.  Also former BN and OKT mains, now operated by BNSF and UP, end at Tower 55 which sees 100 train movements in 24 hours on peak days.  This video shows all of the trains that ran through Tower 55 from dawn to dusk on one of the longest days of the year in June of 2001.  4 hours, 35 minutes.  3 DVD-R, 2 tape set. $50.95.

The Road to Memphis II - NS & CSX

This video shows 24 hours of action on both the Norfolk Southern and CSX lines into Memphis in June of 2001.  Norfolk Southern was videotaped between Sheffield, AL and Corinth, MS, and CSX between Dickson and Bruceton in west-central Tennessee.  With their east-west orientation these scenic lines are far from being level.  Both single-track lines have seen big increases in traffic in recent years.  With long trains and a mix of manifest, intermodal, and unit trains, the NS and CSX roads to Memphis put on quite a show.  114 minutes.

Wings on UP's Kansas Funnel

With 70 trains in 24 hours the Union Pacific's Kansas Sub between Kansas City and Topeka is the second busiest line on the UP system.  This line is the neck of a funnel as trains from three busy routes - the main line from North Platte, the Golden State Route from El Paso, and the Denver Line converge at Topeka for the run to Kansas City.  This video shows all of the trains east of Topeka on UP's Kansas Funnel for over 24 hours in June 2001.  Two hours, 33 minutes.  2 DVD-R, 1 tape set.

144 Trains in 24 Hours - UP's Triple Track Main

Union Pacific's triple track main between Gibbon and North Platte in central Nebraska is the busiest line for freight trains in the World and handles by far the most tonnage - 300 million gross tons per year.  19,000 ton coal trains powered by distributed power, long manifests, hot "Z" intermodal trains, and winged SD70M's - they're all here on this incredible piece of track.  In October 2001 we caught 144 trains on this line in 24 hours and except for being doubled they are all on this epic video.  4 hours, 40 minutes.   3 DVD-R, 2 tape set.
