The former Atlantic Coast Line main from Richmond, Virginia, to Jacksonville, Florida, has always been the busiest and fastest route for both passenger and freight trains between the Northeast and Florida. Nicknamed “The Speedway” in ACL days for its long sections of straight track and one-time one hundred mile-an-hour limit for passenger trains, and later the “A” Line for its ACL heritage, this once double tracked line is CSX’s and Amtrak’s main line from the Northeast to Florida and is best known today as the I-95 Corridor for the interstate highway that it parallels. This program first shows over twenty-four hours of action in August of 2017 around Ridgeland, South Carolina, thirty-two miles north of Savannah Georgia and then daytime action at Pembroke, North Carolina where CSX’s I-95 Corridor crosses their line from Hamlet to Wilmington. And all of this action takes place five months after the late Hunter Harrison took over CSX and drastically changed the railroad’s operations, closing eight of twelve hump classification yards including Hamlet and running fewer but longer trains. Unfortunately, four months after our visit to CSX’s I-95 Corridor, Hunter Harrison suddenly died. Two of his protégé’s are now running the railroad. CSX I-95 Corridor in the Carolinas is 61 minutes in length and can be watched with and without narration.

. CSX’s line over Washington Hill in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts was the first mountain railroad in the World. While the earlier Baltimore and Ohio used an inclined plane to surmount the one point two percent climb up Parrs Ridge, west of Baltimore in 1831, nine years later the Western Railroad of Massachusetts began laying track through the rugged Berkshires on grades up to one and half percent. At times this line has had its own unique motive power, while today CSX seems to like their ES44ACs with extra ballast referred to as “heavies” on this line. Long known as the Boston and Albany, this line became a full-fledged member of the New York Central system in 1960, and later part of Penn Central and Conrail. Today, CSX continues to put its own stamp on this busy railfan favorite. This program shows over twenty-four hours of action between Chester and the outskirts of Pittsfield in western Massachusetts on CSX’s line through the Berkshires in July of 2014, thirteen years since our last visit to this scenic and rugged line. “CSX in the Berkshires Revisited” is one hour and 15 minutes in length. This DVD can be watched with or without narration.

This program shows over 24 hours of action on CSX’s former Conrail and New York Central line between Cleveland and Indianapolis around Union City on the Ohio – Indiana border in October of 2019. This line carries all of CSX’s traffic from the East Coast and upper Midwest to Indianapolis and East St. Louis. Recently, some automotive traffic from the East for Louisville was re-routed via Indianapolis and the Louisville and Indiana Railroad to Louisville, instead of taking the congested “Short Line” from Cincinnati to Louisville. Most of this is loaded and empty auto racks which are classified at Louisville. Beginning in early 2017 when Hunter Harrison arrived at CSX, there have been dramatic changes in operations as many hump classification yards were closed and trains combined or discontinued. The result has been fewer but longer trains that will be on display in this video. This line is known today as the Bee Line, as in honeybee, ostensibly because it runs in a relatively straight line between Cleveland and Indianapolis. But the original nickname was only the letter B, referring to the Indianapolis and Bellefontaine and Bellefontaine and Indiana railroads who met at what would become Union City in 1853. The Pennsylvania Railroad’s Panhandle Line used to cross the Bee Line in Union City, Indiana at grade. The long closed tower is still standing and the Preservation Society of Union City is trying to raise money to move and restore the tower. This DVD is one hour and 21 minutes in length. It can be watched with or without narration.

This video shows the trains and awesome action on CSX's Mountain Subdivision, the B&O's historic original crossing of the Alleghenies west of Cumberland, Maryland, formerly known as the West End, in April of 2005. With manned helper districts, two manned towers, and many color position light signals still in use, this line at times looks like a relic of the 1960's. The Mountain Sub today still handles many coal trains and one merchandise train each way and features CSX's biggest and newest power. 104 minutes. The DVD on this program has the option of being watched with or without narration.
