This video shows 24 hours of action on both the Norfolk Southern and CSX lines into Memphis in June of 2001.  Norfolk Southern was videotaped between Sheffield, AL and Corinth, MS, and CSX between Dickson and Bruceton in west-central Tennessee.  With their east-west orientation these scenic lines are far from being level.  Both single-track lines have seen big increases in traffic in recent years.  With long trains and a mix of manifest, intermodal, and unit trains, the NS and CSX roads to Memphis put on quite a show.  114 minutes.

This video shows action on the two rail lines that run into New Orleans from the east - CSX and Norfolk Southern.  First is 24 hours of action on the busiest rail line into New Orleans, CSX, shot around Pass Christian, MS, and then 24 hours on NS north of Hattiesburg, MS.  CSX hugs the Coast and has the water crossings but the NS line into New Orleans is anything but level and straight for their long trains to traverse in northern Mississippi.  86 minutes.

The main line of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad between Aurora and Galesburg in central Illinois is one of the more storied rail lines leading west from Chicago, long known for its fleet of Zephyr passenger trains.  Since the BN merger, the tonnage on this line has grown by fifty per cent, but the traffic mix has changed dramatically.  And Amtrak still uses the Zephyr name on two pair of trains that run on this line.  This video will show the traffic and operations for two days and one night at many locations on what BNSF now calls their Mendota Subdivision in September of 2002.  77 minutes.

CSX’s LCL Subdivision between Cincinnati and Louisville, better known as the Short Line, is a busy mountain railroad smack dab in the middle of the Midwest. This spectacular, former Louisville and Nashville line parallels but does not follow the meandering south bank of the Ohio River in northern Kentucky accounting for the many hills or hogbacks that trains must traverse as they cross streams that flow northward into the Ohio River. Southbounds and northbounds each face a half a dozen climbs over one percent. When constructed in the late 1860s this was considered to be a superbly engineered line that included six tunnels and two high trestles although little straight track. Today the Short Line is a key link between North and South for CSX with upwards of twenty trains a day using this congested, single track, CTC equipped line. This program shows thirty hours of action on the railfan friendly Short Line, CSX’s LCL Subdivision between Cincinnati and Louisville, in May of 2013, including a train traversing the street running in La Grange. “The Short Line – CSX’s LCL Subdivision” is 67 minutes in length. Both the Blu-ray and DVD versions sell for $30.95 plus $5.00 for shipping and handling. This DVD can be watched with or without narration.
